The MG Owners’ Club was founded in October 1973 by Roche Bentley through a series of regional clubs. There were a number of smaller groups in the ‘Home Counties South’ Region. Terry Moorland founded the Staines & District MG Group in 1993 (later to be renamed Runnymede MG Owner’s Club).

Terry soon found that his long hours at work in the City did little to make running the group easy and when he stepped down Tony Hutchings took over, assisted by Alan Burton and with Robin Doran as Treasurer.

1993 saw the first edition of the 1007 newsletter “Windtone” produced, in which notice was given of the Club’s first rally – to the Mid-Hants Railway! Winter 2000 also marked an important point in the life of 1007 – the first of the annual Christmas Pantomimes was performed – oh yes it was! And it continues to this day.

We’ve always enjoyed getting out as a group; highlights include our tenth anniversary tea party in September 2003 which saw our cars on display at Nuffield Place in Oxfordshire. In October 2004 we enjoyed the first of our famous London Walks.

We like to mark club anniversaries (often by the Thames) and celebrated our fifteenth in 2008 having a picnic in Henley while enjoying the Classic Boat Show followed by our 20th and 25th at the National Trust in Runnymede. Then came our 30th in 2023 where we chartered a canal boat for an afternoon trip on the Basingstoke Canal. Having managed the group for 15 years Tony retired in 2008 with Russ Armitage taking over as Chairman. Ken Middleton and Les Moir followed Russ in August 2011 with Gerry Hill assuming the mantle  from October 2013 until 2022. Mark Pogorselski ran the club until 2024 when our current chairman Paul Moss took up the role. The club currently has about 50 members and is always looking for new members.
